It is great that you have decided to give your time to read this post and I respect your time. If you want to directly go to the core of this post, skip the next two paragraphs and go to the third paragraph.

14 years is a long time! Especially in a research engineer’s life it is even longer. This month, I have completed my 14 years as a security researcher. I had taken a trip down the memory lane and the journey had brought all types of emotions. From the humblest of beginnings, I had this great blessing to be coached/mentored by some of the best in the industry who are also great human beings (As a policy, I am not mentioning the personal family members/friends in the post). Apart from materialistic gains which is very important, I had some genuine joys such as growing my personal library from few books to quite a few books. The trophies and certificates cupboard grew.

At the end of the journey I also realized how tiring it must have been for the mind and body and believe me it is! All these years, On an average, I have spent 16 hours per day at my work (not sure whether this is good or bad. Before judging me, My lifestyle is different). But that’s not the reason for this fatigue. It is exactly the opposite. The “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” mode has gradually disappeared. The mind has transitioned from being that brash technical one to a policy and ROI oriented one. Don’t get me wrong, I am still in technical role and I absolutely love what I do and work in a company that emphasizes on great culture. However for every tech investments I do now, I end up calculating whether it is worth of the time to spend. What does it mean to a person like me? Well, first the disappointments have become tough to handle both in personal and professional lives. The earthly things which never bothered earlier are now starting to hurt via this chink in my Armour. The technical mindset provided a shell which protected me from earthly woes. And the shell is no longer helping to channel the emotions out.

So, what’s the new beginning? I am planning to start writing a series of articles that belong to “Popular Science” and “scientific philosophy” category. This is a new genre for me as all the blogs/articles I have written in the past are hardcore technical blogs most of them are about reverse engineering some malware. I am hoping to follow the legendary Prof. Isaac Asimov’s writing principles while trying to express my thoughts and ideas. In the journey, I hope to pique your interest in some of these areas that I am going to write about ranging from the realm of numbers to Quantum computing to book reviews. At the same time create an engaging hobby for the mind to relax and truly enjoy writing meticulous write-ups without hoping to get anything in return and forget any pain/fatigue/disappointments.

For me this is equivalent of Rocky hitting the gym in country style when chips are down! :)

PS: I am evaluating privacy features of other blogs/content publishing platforms. Will move to a formal blogging platform soon (Recommendations are welcome!)

Aequanimitas!!
